We just got good news. Both of our high school girl wrestlers were named to the 2014 ASICS Girls High School All-American Wrestling Team. This is the highest honor in girls high school wrestling. 72 wrestlers are chosen for this honor by a panel of nationwide wrestling experts and reflects the consistency and accomplishments for their entire wrestling season - high school as well as national tournaments. It shows their overall impact on the wrestling world and highlights those wrestlers that are expected to excel at the next level. Both girls are making the team for the first time.
Theresa Rankin was named to the Third Team.
Samantha Cushard was named Honorable Mention.
Here is the press release:
Theresa will next be wrestling in the Cadet World Championships (15 & 16 yrs old) representing the USA in Slovakia July 15-20th after winning the USA World Team Trials in May.
Samantha will next be wrestling in the USA Junior National Championships (18 & under) in Fargo, North Dakota July 18-23rd to try to improve her third place finish from last year.
We are very proud of them for this honor. Both girls do very well in national tournaments but you never know how the rest of the country sees them until they get recognized in this way. This shows that our girls are catching the attention of the college coaches, national team coaches and other wrestling experts around the country.
There are three high schools in the country that had two girls make the list. One of them is a pair of twins so they obviously go to the same school and both of these other schools are in states that have separate girls wrestling teams and full girls wrestling seasons. We are the only high school in the country that does not have a separate girls wrestling team to have two girls make this list. That's something special.
